Valero signed!

19 August 2008

According to reports from several sources, including the BBC and Sky Sports, Albion have completed the signing of midfielder Borja Valero from Real Mallorca. The move has been on the cards for some time, with the player previously reported to have flown over to sign for us and take the medical, and the fee of 6 million Euro (around ?4.75 million) is shared between his old club and his agent(!)

Reports say that he has agreed a four year deal, although there is no official confirmation just yet. Moves to sign one of his team mates, defender Nunes, have been effectively ended by his signing of a new contract with a 15 million Euro get-out clause, although Albion remain interested in another: Argentinian striker Oscar Trejo, for whom they have already had one bid turned down. According to Sky, Trejo's agent says that following Valero to Albion would be a 'great opportunity' for him.

Update, Friday pm

The signing has finally been completed for a club record fee of ?4.7 million. The delay was down to the need for endless exchanges and translations of paperwork between the two clubs and between the English and Spanish FA, coupled with the fact that Mallorca were in no great rush and not helped by the air disaster in Madrid two days ago.

So..... who can tell us who was the last Spaniard to play for Albion?
