Albion's preparations for their fourth Premiership season seem to be grinding along at snail's pace. Negotiations are still under way for a shirt sponsor, with discussions in progress with a number of companies - but the Credit Crunch is biting, apparently. As a result, supporters are unlikely to be able to buy the new season's shirts, which have yet to be officially unveiled, until near the start of the season (though we have it on good authority that the home shirt will feature navy blue and white stripes and the away kit will be predominantly yellow).

Following Zoltan Gera's departure on a Bosman transfer to Fulham, defender Martin Albrechtsen has joined Derby County through the same mechanism. Albion's official site stated that he had made the move because Derby had offered him better "incentives" and that he'd always struggled to hold down a first team place, while Derby's official site have heralded his arrival as a major coup and proof of their ambition. Albrechtsen has become Paul Jewell's eighth summer signing - although one of those is Nathan Ellington...

Rumours suggest that Kevin Phillips will back down over his demand for a two-year contract and settle for Albion's current offer, but we won't believe it until the ink is well dry on that particular piece of paper.

Albion have, however, appointed a new head of Sports Science in the shape of former Birmingham City fitness coach Dan Harris.
