New midfielder and keeper!

29 January 2008

According to Reuters, Albion have finally concluded the deal to sign South Korean midfielder Kim Do-heon. One of the directors of his current club, Seongnam Ilhwa, is quoted as saying "The contract has been signed and he left for England this afternoon" - though it doesn't say which afternoon that was, exactly.

The move has been speculated over for some time, with the player apparently so keen to come over and join Albion that he'd sent photos of his recent wedding to the club. Whether it contained footage of him playing football is less clear, but he was certainly part of the South Korean team at the 2006 World Cup. There is a video showing a pretty impressive selection of his goals on YouTube

However, the move is still subject to his obtaining a work permit, and that is due to be discussed tomorrow at a hearing in London. He has also to agree personal terms and pass a medical, but hopefully most of the groundwork will have been done on the former.

Also looking likely to join is Czech goalkeeper Michal Danek, following Albion reaching agreement with his current club, Viktoria Plzen. The player has already agreed terms and doesn't need a work permit as he is an EU citizen.
