Managed to watch this one on iFollow from a sun lounger in Mexico.

Slightly surprised that Weimann got the nod but overall the team was strong and the bench looked really powerful.

I thought we were bright first 10-15 but there were a couple of things that made me think a point would be a good result.

  1. The ref looked not quite up to it. He insanely pulled up our break to give an early yellow when Wallace was away one v one after a deft flick from Grady (just play on!) and then he missed a clear couple of tugs on Johnston which showed he wouldn’t get protection
  2. I thought we looked ropey at the back pace-wise. We played a high line but Millwall were quicker than us.

And so as they made it harder for us by pressing everything and then turning us in the channels it became a game where we’d be patient, get nowhere, lose it and then they’d get joy on quick counters.

Their goal was a great finish but a simple long ball into the channel that had Kipre panicking and he nodded it through superbly for them to score.

The rest of the half from us was the same. Sloppy, little joy, not quite the right threat and Millwall did a completely fair job on us doubling up or cutting out pull backs. We exerted pressure but looked vulnerable and Millwall could’ve added more.

I’d have got Semi and Fellows on at HT but it was only Fellows who came in for Weimann.

We improved and Grady had a real purple patch in wriggling away and taking players out of the game. We still looked a bit rusted and lacking rhythm with TF probably over thinking a few times when he should’ve just hit his head down and crossed it.

BTA and Swift came on for MJ and Wallace and almost immediately Grady cleverly won a nothing penalty with a chop back. Swift takes a great penalty so it was no surprise we levelled.

There was enough time to win it but nothing quite came off… again just that cohesion was missing.

Semi came on after a cynical foul on Kipre but improved us in that it locked the back door pace-wise.

It was great to see Phillips back but his introduction for Grady probably weakened us as he was some way off match sharpness.

I thought Millwall were good value for their point and their right back especially had a great game defensively keeping MJ, Phillips and Fellows very quiet.

Never a bad point at the Den. Beat Watford and it’s an even better result.

  • Palmer - 7 Solid and done by a great finish for the goal.
  • Furlong - 6 A bit of an off day but worked hard.
  • Barts - 6 I thought he looked leggy.
  • Kipre - 6 didn’t look in control all game
  • Townsend - 7 pick of the back four, did okay both ways.
  • Yok - 6 Big when it mattered but done for pace.
  • Mowatt- 6 Lots of ball and used it well enough
  • Wallace - 5 Couldn’t impact it or get going, never seems to against his former club
  • Grady - 7 Frustrating start but our key player when he found pockets and also a big last ditch tackle.
  • MJ - 6 Tricky but they doubled up on him
  • Weimann - 4 Did very little
  • Fellows - 6 mixed by his standards
  • BTA - 6 Caused them problems
  • Swift - 6 Good pen
  • Ajayi - 6 his sort of game
  • Phillips - 5 Looked an expected yard off it but important minutes
