It won't be Irvine... or will it?

30 June 2009

Much confusion surrounds the choice of Tony Mowbray's replacement. According to the Birmingham Mail, the Board are meeting today to choose between Alan Irvine and Roberto Di Matteo, having interviewed them both. Di Matteo is a new name to the speculation; currently doing well with MK Dons and earning praise for his style of football, he apparently impressed the Albion Board during interviews and is suggested to be the slight favourite.

However, Preston NE's official site has issued a statement that Irvine has turned down the move and that their Chairman doesn't believe he ever met with us at all!

If it was a straight choice between those two, it would seem that it has now been made for us. With the players due to return tomorrow for pre-season training, the appointment can't really be made soon enough.
