Gera going to Fulham

10 June 2008

Out-of-contract Albion midfielder Zoltan Gera looks finally set to leave the club after refusing their best offer of a new deal. But despite being linked with a number of big name clubs capable of offering him Champions League football straight away, it seems that the one that's managed to persuade him where his future lies best is Fulham.

Yes, the same Fulham that's struggled in the Premiership for several years and only just survived at the very end of the last one thanks to a couple of good results. On the up side, it's likely that a player of his quality will be pretty much guaranteed a first team place - but it's hard to see them doing a great deal better than Albion will in the Premiership next season, if at all. It feels like a disappointing epilogue to a glorious four-year career at the Hawthorns.

"If true I have to say I'm disappointed in him. I wouldn't have begrudged him leaving for Everton or Man City who can offer European football or even a team who will challenge for trophies and a European place. But to leave for Fulham!! I guess it proves it's all about the money as they'll struggle again next year."
