Kamara signs for Fulham

09 July 2007

Several sources are finally reporting that Albion striker Diomansy Kamara has signed for Fulham on a five-year contract for ?6 million. The move has been under way for some time, with Fulham's original offer of cash plus Heidar Helguson falling through after Helgson - not unexpectedly - turned down the move. Negotiations were still dragging along for a cash-only deal, but they were accelerated by the rival interest in Kamara from West Ham, who offered ?5.5 million.

After a summer so far of frugal spending, the Kamara transfer will at last make reasonable funds available for Tony Mowbray to bring in more of the players he wants to. The sale sets a new club record for an outgoing transfer fee, beating the previous record of ?5 million (and one pound) for the sale of Lee Hughes to Coventry in 2002.
