Hoult suspended for Sunday?

26 January 2007

Albion keeper Russell Hoult has been suspended by the club. A statement on the Official Web Site reads simply:

"GOALKEEPER Russell Hoult has been suspended by West Bromwich Albion pending further enquiries by the club into newspaper articles this week."

The newspaper articles in question relate to a video of Hoult and two... umm... "friends" indulging in... cough... "adult activities". Said activities were filmed using a mobile phone which was then lost, and the video - which shows Hoult wearing a WBA polo shirt - has subsequently surfaced. An article in The Sun carries a still from the video and further sordid details for those interested.

Youngster Luke Steele is currently out on loan, so unless the issue is resolved extremely quickly we face the daunting prospect of going into Sunday's FA Cup game at Molineux with only Zuberbuhler available between the sticks, and he is reckoned to be out of favour with new boss Tony Mowbray who replaced him with Hoult a few games into his reign as manager.

It's possible the Wolves fans will be too busy hurling abuse at their Chief Exec Jez Moxey to notice, but we somehow doubt it. Moxey has upset the locals by moving them out of the South Bank to make room for Albion fans - pretty much the only option available because of the increased allocation of 15% for away supporters in Cup games - but had the bright idea of charging them extra for the privilege. Still, they've been offered a pie and a pint each to make up for it so all's well.
