Perry signs

04 July 2006

Many Albion supporters have long been saying that we need an experienced centre half to play alongside young Curtis Davies, and now we have one. 33 year old Chris Perry has joined from Charlton Athletic on a Bosman after being released by new manager Ian Dowie at the end of last season, and is relishing the opportunity to play next to the rising star. Perry has spent 13 years in the Premiership, and this will be his first time outside the top flight as a professional.

Comments from Charlton supporters seem to suggest that they rate him quite highly, with phrases such as "Good signing that, He's F***ing quality!!", "Probably our best defender last season", "I don't think any of us can work out why Dowie doesn't want him" and "great pro, good club-man, excellent CB. What he lacks in height he makes up for in commitment and positioning. Always there or there abouts for my vote for POY". Nobody we saw had a bad word about him, which suggests that this may have been something of a coup for Albion in the transfer market.
