Dobie transfer request

18 June 2002

Just as it looked like things were settling after last week's appointment of Jeremy Peace as Chairman, Albion have been handed a transfer request by striker Scott Dobie. The reason seems to be the low level of pay he currently receives, despite having broken into the Scotland team.

However, the new Chairman has insisted that Dobie won't be going anywhere. A statement on the official site insists that Albion is now looking to buy players, not sell them, and adds:

"As part of our overall review of the way the club operates, we will be looking at individual players' contracts, where we think it is appropriate, in the run-up to the new season."

There may be more to it than just money, of course - with Roberts set to return and Albion looking to buy players as well as implementing a more heavily appearance-based bonus package for players this season, Dobie may feel his chances of keeping his Scotland place as well as improving his income will be helped by moving on.
