Megson under fire

12 May 2002

Today's Sunday Mercury contains an attack on Albion Manager Gary Megson from his former Chairman at Stockport County. Among the quotes it contains are:

"Gary has always been very hard working and dedicated, but he has a mental problem when it came to dealing with authority. I did not have a very close relationship because he could not communicate. He never rang me up, he never kept me informed about what was going on. Everything he said was through the press. He created a 'them and us' situation."

"I would say after all this, he is virtually unemployable. Other chairman will look at the way all of this has gone on and I am sure that they will wonder about employing him in the future. I am frightened by what is going on at Albion after al their success, Thompson should stay, get in another manager - like George Graham - and look after the long term future of the club. As for Gary, I feel that he protests too much."

And we thought the Mercury always had it in for Paul Thompson...
