Sheffield "exonerated"

02 May 2002

Sheffield United seem to be feeling somewhat smug after the FA disciplinary commission dished out an almost insignificant level of punishment after finally reviewing the events that took place during and after Albion's abandoned 3-0 win.

The club themselves have been fined £10,000 for failing to ensure the conduct of their players as they remonstrated with the match officials. Captain Keith Curle admitted improper conduct in an incident involving a match official and was fined £500 and given a two-match ban. Georges Santos was found guilty of violent conduct, and has been banned for two further matches on top of the four he has already missed; the charge of threatening behaviour levelled against him over an incident in the tunnel was not proven. Patrick Suffo was also found guilty of violent conduct, and was fined £3,000 and banned for three games in addition to the three-match ban already completed.

Finally, Neil Warnock was found guilty of improper conduct and fined a whopping £300. He admitted a separate charge over a similar offence during a game against Barnsley for which he was fined a further £1,000 and handed a two-match touchline ban.

Justice done, then. Good job we didn't need the extra goals we could have got in the missing ten minutes or so...
