Death of an Albion legend

20 January 2002

Former West Bromwich Albion and England striker Jeff Astle has died at the age of 59 after collapsing suddenly at his daughter's home on Saturday night. Astle was rushed to the Queen's Hospital in Burton-on-Trent, but died for reasons not yet established - though police have said there were no suspicious circumstances involved.

"The King" was one of the best known Albion players, ever, and later in life found fame by singing (admittedly, badly) on the Fantasy Football show - courtesy of Albion fan Frank Skinner.
