Hoult leaves for Stoke

31 January 2007

If there was any possible doubt that Dean Kiely had joined Albion to be first choice keeper, it would surely have been dispelled today with the news that former first choice, albeit currently suspended, keeper Russell Hoult has moved to Stoke City on a free transfer. Hoult played 219 games for Albion and was instrumental in our first promotion season after keeping a record number of clean sheets. Let's hope that fans remember him for that rather than for the black clound hanging uncomfortably over his departure.

Not much sign of any further activity on deadline day though - Hibs midfielder Scott Brown appears to have had a go at his club for not selling him to Albion and is now resigned to trying to win back his own supporters. A rumour started doing the rounds that Jason Koumas was off to West Ham, but there seems little substance behind it (we're now praying we don't get proved wrong...)
