Summary:

Albion grabbed first place in the Championship with a victory at bottom club Preston, but had to survive a late scare in the sixth minute of added time when their hosts reduced the deficit to a single goal.

Jay Rodriguez put Albion ahead with a header from Jake Livermore's ball in the third minute of the second half, and although North End levelled through an Andrew Hughes free kick, they gave Albion the lead again three minutes later when Ben Davies put the ball in his own net from Craig Dawson's cross.

Dwight Gayle belted in a free kick from 25 yards with only two minutes of full time remaining, but seven minutes of added time gave Preston the chance to pull one back through Alan Browne.

Albion top the table by a point from Leeds, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United with Sheffield Wednesday our next opponents away from home... on Wednesday.
