Brendan Clegg:

More tripe served up by Mr Pulis.

I could moan and rant for ages but key points -

  • Saido had to start tonight - as long as we have him he has to play. Look at the goals against Posh - we have no other foward who can finish like that.
  • Evans (best player) out of position again.
  • Poc not even on the bench. He may not be a world beater and he may have had a bad game against Posh but with 4 centre backs on the pitch already Chester was never going to come on so was a wasted sub - as was shown by the injury to Evans. Especially with Brutn still injured.
  • Subs were dreadful - the reason Swansea scored was because during that period Pulis had moved Dawson to left back & Gardner to right back and the poor back 4 were lost for 10 minutes and Sandro was sort of playing on the right of a diamond. Our shape went to pieces.
  • Taking Sess off when we are trailing - madness
  • It took forever for him to see we needed to drop McClean back to left back given the options we had on the pitch.
  • Usual dreadful tactics, long diagonal balls, negative play, gifting the opposition possession at home.
  • Since Morrison got injured we have been totally hopeless.
  • The old guard of McAuley and Olsson did us proud again. Great servants.
  • Increasingly blame should be steered away from the players who are doing their best, playing how they are asked to and where they are asked to.

If I was Peace I would be on the phone to Moyes begging - but 'Mr Margins' Pulis was given another get out of jail card by the lucky late leveller.

  • Foster - 7 Made a couple of big saves where Myhill would probably have stayed on his line.
  • Dawson - 6 Had a go, did his best.
  • McAuley - 7 another standard display from arguably our player of the year so far.
  • Olsson - 7 I thought he was probably our best player. So much heart and spirit.
  • Evans - 6 Did OK but constantly on his wrong foot so our balance was a problem. We've been here before.
  • Sess - 6 In patches was our only bright spark. Of course, all teams who scout us know to double up on him because everything good goes through him. Both he and the team/coaches need to work on plans to get him in the game based upon this.
  • Yacob - 6 Did his very specific job quite well I thought - kept getting that foot in but is as leggy as we all know.
  • Sandro - 6 He was like an oak tree in there for 50 minutes but unfortunately showed the touch of one too. Did OK, is not a bad loan signing if we can get him fit and on form. Showed odd moment of quality.
  • McClean - 6 Was quite limited by having Evans behind him again and despite being a headless chicken he did get 2 really good crosses in.
  • Fletcher - 5 Did his best to do a job for us in the Morrison role but lacked the quality or legs to play there, even though he still has the footballing brain to get into good positions. Surely the Spurs lad needs a go here?
  • Rondon - 6 As normal, did his best chasing hopeless causes and battling with 3 defenders. Sure his touch lets him down sometimes but I still don't think it's fair to judge him on this service of approach. Glad for him he got a goal as the pressure is mounting and the boo boys are grumbling.

Subs

  • Gardner - 5 Did his best at right back and then again when shifted back to midfield as we went hoof and hope.
  • Saido - 5 Nothing really fell his way but he's not going to benefit from coming on for the only other player in the team who creates things and can give him the ball to feet. Might as well have put Lambert on the way we went direct.
  • Sick Vic - 6 Came on and threw his weight about. His Newcastle performance is the best we have seen from a forward of ours this year but there doesn't seem to be much danger of a repeat.
