Summary:

With little to play for in the Premier League and an FA Cup final at the weekend, it was to be expected that City would field a seriously weakened side for Albion's visit and present them with the best chance of a win they'd ever be likely to get. Instead, Albion followed suit and dropped Ben Foster and Gareth McAuley to change most of the defence as well as formation. In came Boaz Myhill, Craig Dawson and Gabriel Tamas while Billy Jones and Liam Ridgwell pushed up into midfield alongside Youssouf Mulumbu, James Morrison and Claudio Yacob to leave Markus Rosenberg partnering Romelu Lukaku up front.

Although Albion had more than a fair share of the play as their hosts often took their feet off the gas, it was City who scored the only goal of the match when Carlos Tevez broke free and crossed for Edin D?eko to volley home from twelve yards. Peter Odemwingie appeared as a late sub for Albion despite the club having stated earlier that he would be free to leave in the summer.

Albion remain in 8th place, and cannot now finish any higher - but Swansea closed the gap to ninth place to just two points by beating Wigan at the DW Stadium and Albion could finish as low as tenth if West Ham could overhaul the gap in goal difference.
