Kidderminster Harriers 0 - West Bromwich Albion 3
Summary:Albion began their friendly campaign with a comfortable win over Harriers at Aggborough. Di Mattteo played two completely different elevens in the two halves, but in a possible sign of things to come he stuck with the 4-5-1 formation in both, leading to some players in unusual positions - such as Leon Barnett at left back and Simon Cox and Luke Moore together in the midfield, although the absence of Marek Cech and Gonzalo Jara following their World Cup exploits goes some way to explaining that. An early goal from Ishmael Miller followed good approach play by Cox and Reuben Reid, and Roman Bednar headed home a cross from Giles Barnes just after the hour. Abdoulaye Meite, partnering Gabriel Tamas in the centre of the second half defence, made sure of the win when he headed a cross from Jerome Thomas. Albion gave a debut to new defender Pablo Ibanez in the first half and fielded youngster George Thorne in midfield for the second, with Luke Daniels replacing Scott Carson in goal as Dean Kiely takes on the full time role of goalkeeping coach. They now depart for their pre-season training trip to the Netherlands, culminating in Saturday's match at VVV Venlo. |
